We are entitled to receive $500 per fiscal year to be spent on educational classes or certification tests.

TUITION REIMBURSEMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Request Tuition Reimbursement 30 Days Prior to Course Start Date

The course must be approved by your Supervisor and approved by the Human Resource Department at least 30 days prior to the course start date. Application forms submitted late will not be approved for tuition reimbursement.

Prior to Taking the Class

    1. Submit one on-line application form for each course.

    2. Attach a copy of the course brochure, syllabus or college catalog with the application.

After completion of the on-line application form, it is automatically forwarded to your Supervisor for approval. After your Supervisor’s approval, it is forwarded to the Human Resource Department staff who will determine employee and course eligibility. You will be notified by email from Human Resources if the request for reimbursement is approved. If not approved, an explanation will be sent to you by email.

The employee is responsible for the initial payment of tuition and other costs.

How to Receive Reimbursement After Course Completion

    1. A copy of the tuition reimbursement approval email from the Human Resource Department.

    2. List your employee ID number.

    3. Proof of payment for course (e.g., fee statement showing a $0.00 balance, both sides of the

      1. cancelled check, credit card statement, etc.).

    4. Proof of satisfactory completion of course (letter grade, competency, certificate of attendance,

      1. etc.).

      1. TUITION REIMBURSEMENT POLICY FOR CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEES

The purpose of tuition reimbursement is to assist employees to participate in training experiences to improve performance on their current job and to allow for career growth within Saint Paul Public Schools. The courses must be related to a job title and job-related courses.

Eligibility

Any full-time classified or unclassified employee of the District working 32 hours or more per week for 26 pay periods per year is eligible for reimbursement. Any part-time classified or unclassified employee of the District working 20-to-31 hours per week for 26-pay periods per year is eligible for reimbursement. Determination of employment status is based on the employee’s full or part-time status for a majority of the fiscal year. Tuition reimbursement is excluded for provisional and temporary employees.

Reimbursement Coverage

Reimbursement is for the cost of enrollment tuition, laboratory fees, and other obligatory course fees. Tuition reimbursement does not include the cost for books and course supplies. Reimbursement will be limited to $500 per fiscal year or as specified in the appropriate labor agreement.

Employees who obtain this reimbursement shall be required to pay back the amount of reimbursement if the employee leaves employment with the District within one (1) year after completion of a reimburse course. The employee, however, shall not be required to pay back the District if the new job is with a governmental unit.
