Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED certificate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Some knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

    • Some knowledge of the policies, procedures, and services of the organization.

    • Some ability to sort, alphabetize, file, search and/or retrieve computerized and/or manual records and files.

    • Some ability to operate modern office equipment.

    • Some ability to make simple arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy.

    • Some ability to follow oral and written instructions.

    • Some ability to communicate effectively in person and/or over the telephone.

    • Some ability to deal with the public in a tactful and effective manner.

Qualifications Review- Weight 70% pass/fail

Oral Examination - Weight 30% pass/fail

The Qualifiacations Review is a scored review of your education, training and experience in areas related to this position. You need to score at least 75% to pass.

The oral examination portion of this test may not be administered as determined by Human Resources.

Non-promotional eligible lists are generally pass/fail and promotional lists are ranked. The promotional list of eligibles is considered before the non-promotional list. The eligible list established from this selection process will be used to fill the current vacancy and may also be used to fill potential future vacancies in this title during the next year.

Responsibilities

The listed examples may not include all the duties performed by all positions in this class.

    • Answers telephone and receives visitors; determines nature of business, directs individuals to appropriate staff, or supplies information where some knowledge of the operation is necessary.

    • Sorts, alphabetizes, and files cards, correspondence, documents, forms, memoranda, records, reports and other related materials according to well-established records and filing systems.

    • Searches records and files for specific data.

    • Performs simple arithmetic computations; posts simple entries in books of accounts or other records.

    • Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming and outgoing mail and performs other messenger duties as assigned.

    • Operates office equipment such as copy machine, adding machine, postage machine, calculator, and telephone system.

    • Performs on occasion routine typing or word processing of materials including lists, envelopes, and form letters where speed and accuracy are not a major factor.
